A Nurturing Village

What are we all about?

our story

A Nurturing Village was born from the realization that many of us struggle with how to communicate with children and how to guide them because our caretakers and adults struggled in those areas as they raised us.

So I created ANV to share everything I learned while studying Early Childhood Education and working as a nanny and pre-school teacher for many years.

I want to show everyone, wether they’re a parent or not, that if you are an adult now you were a former kid so you already have some experience in early childhood because you had one and it affects your everyday adult life.

Learning about child development gives you a chance to validate those areas where some things were missing in your childhood and how it affects you now. Secondly, and importantly, as children are developing they are easily influenced and impacted.

We, the adults of this world, play a significant part in this, we make up their community, their village; we make up their world. And if even the smallest of interactions can impact a child’s life in some way, having this knowledge can help us to make a positive and nurturing impact.

Our Mission

ANV provides tools and resources for communities to support in the guiding and nurturing of children as they grow, and the inner child we all are trying to heal and nurture.

Our Vision

To create a world where adults can reflect on what they needed in their childhood, understand how not getting what they needed has affected them and find ways to get that as they reparent.

CO-FOUNDER | EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIALIST

Tashi Sanchez-Llaury (she/they)

Tashi is a queer, immigrant, educator, and co-running A Nurturing Village. She was born in Trujillo, Peru and migrated to the U.S. at the age of four to reunite with her parents. Tashi currently resides in the Bronx, NY with her spouse and two cats. She is a Libra sun, Pisces moon and Taurus rising.

Tashi has worked with children since the age of 18 as a baby-sitter, nanny, and teacher. She studied early childhood & bilingual education in college while also working within the immigrant rights movement for seven years in different capacities; volunteer, educator, facilitator, staff. Through her education, identities, and lived experiences her passion for early childhood development and social justice found their home together in the creation of A Nurturing Village.

Tashi is a firm believer in that we are all teachers in our own capacity and forever learners as we go through life. Her philosophy of teaching is influenced and guided by children; their emotional, mental, and physical development, respecting their individual identities, and making sure that they always feel heard and represented in the spaces they are growing in.

As a part of ANV’s co-founding team Tashi manages the educational content and creative direction. She holds an A.S. & B.S. in Early Childhood Education and a M.S. in Bilingual Education from Southern Connecticut State University.
